In the Future
ââ¬Å"What are you going to be when you grow up?â⬠I envy people who have an answer to that question. I have been asked it time and time again since I was old enough to understand the concept of time. I often respond: ââ¬Å"Grow up? Why on earth would I want to do that?â⬠But unfortunately, as I am à reminded daily by an endless stream of college pamphlets and à à à e-mails and an unnatural fear for my grade-point average, it is inevitable. Sometimes I can almost hear the clock ticking down the days, hours, minutes, and seconds I have left until my semi-worry-free state of mind is shattered. The future is uncertain at best, and to me, that makes it a scary place. I like knowing what is going to happen. The media certainly doesnââ¬â¢t help quell my fears. According to CNN, if à I am lucky enough to find a job that à hasnââ¬â¢t been outsourced to India, China, Mexico, or the Middle East, I will have no way to get to work because gas (if there is any left) will cost more per gallon than I make in a day. I wonââ¬â¢t be able to walk because one, I will be too obese, and two, it burns à energy that I wonââ¬â¢t be able to afford to replace by eating outrageously priced food. If I ever do find a way to work, one thing I hope to be able to afford is a house. Unfortunately, when I am old and receiving no social security from the collapsed system that I pumped thousands of dollars into, my house will be worth less than what I pay in taxes. In an effort to save money by conserving energy, I will try to install some kind of solar panels but discover that all the natural resources have been used up so that nothing new can be made. This is good news for global warming and pollution activists. It is really a moot point, however, because in a short while the Earth will be destroyed by nuclear weapons, and a couple of years after that it will be à devoured by a gigantic black hole. I am sick of the news making the à future sound li ke a tacky sci-fi movie. A lot can change in a personââ¬â¢s lifetime, but Iââ¬â¢m hoping that most of the changes in mine wonââ¬â¢t be for the worse. When Iââ¬â¢ve gotten past my insecurities about what lies ahead for me, I à actually find thinking about the future interesting. What will it be like? What kind of music will there be? Will there be strange slang words? Odd fashions? Will kids still have to go to school? What will things look like? What will I look like? Did everything work out after all? I can imagine a million different answers to each of these questions determined by what happens now, through our choices and actions. The idea that one little bit of luck or one tiny mistake can impact my whole life is amazing. As changeable as the future is, it is definitely easier to predict if you have a plan. The sad truth is I have no great plan. I have a two-year goal ââ¬â to figure out my great plan. So far I have no idea where I would like to go to school, what I want to study, or what career I want. My interests seem to change every time I fill out a survey. I tend to like whatever Iââ¬â¢m good at, but unfortunately Iââ¬â¢m not good at many useful things. Besides an education and a career, there are many other important decisions to make. For this I have à another foolproof plan: decisions about having a family or where I will live I will make only after I have à received an à education of some sort and secured a decent job. My biggest fear for the future is that I will be disappointed. If I could ask my future self one question (besides what stocks to invest in), it would be ââ¬Å"What should I have done differently?â⬠When things arenââ¬â¢t going well, I try to look ahead. But I hate feeling like there was something I could have done better. My future is largely determined by what I do now. Iââ¬â¢m not sure exactly what I want the future to hold. I can barely decide what I want to do five minutes from n ow. The only plan I have set in stone is to try my best at whatever I think will make me happy.

These broader programs must be actively managed and should include training for employees and directors, monitoring of compliance and regular report to the board. There are many formats and approaches in developing a code of ethics. It requires one to take an examination to help determine the key purpose you would like your code of ethics to fulfill, either you want it to focus on specific conduct concerning certain individuals or more general standards and also how the code will operate amid the existing policies for board members and staff. It is also important to determine who will participate in drafting the code. Ethics taskforce or committee that includes primary staff representatives is one of the approaches to consider. The Epic Of Homer s The Odyssey - 965 Words
An individual s characteristics are the key to their conduct and this is very true in Homer s the Odyssey, which takes place in 700 BC in the Mediterranean, near Greece. The epic story is about a Greek hero, named Odysseus, who has left his home country to fight in the Trojan War twenty years earlier. The focus of the epic and his mission now is to make his way back home to Ithaca. On his way, he shows some great qualities along with strengths that influence the course of his journey. Despite Odysseus getting bad a name from some readers, I do not believe that was he was a bad man or some woman-hating monster who used women to get what he wanted in life instead his mission was to get back home to his wife Penelope and son Telemachus, however he had relationships with women along the way and was forced into some very difficult situations. Odysseus gets a bad reputation I believe mostly because the way he handled Calypso, who fell madly in love with him while he was visiting her island. I can see him writing off Calypso as she is not entirely human, and as such, since she treated his men terribly, Odysseus treating her similarly does not mean that he treats all women negatively. Personal and contextual factors that promote identity development are the personality characteristics, parenting practices, interaction with diverse peers through school and community activities , schools and communities, and lastly societal forces. These things are set for them to explore or identify themselves based on how they view themselves and their actions. When the parents are involved in their child's actively they are then influenced and attached to their parents, and in their own opinions they are active in their lives. The interaction with diverse peers allows them to open up to the idea that peop le are all different. Many of those who have friends that are from other countries are involved in exploring relationship issues. School communities allow students to explore the supportive experience included within the classroom, and promotes a high level of thinking. Chapter 12: Apply (page 321) Return to the conversation between Louis and Daryl in the opening of this chapter. Which identity status best characterizes each of the two boys, and why? The identity status that best characterizes each of the two boys is identity foreclosure because each of them look for the self-endearment of actually exploring new things and having the openness to try different things. They are struggling to identify the commitment in the absence of exploration. Although both of them want to experience these things they also have the openness to explore other cultures. Tam reasoning at Stage 3 than Lydia's Stage 4 is because of the moral issues that they both have experienced coming from different stages. Their level of reasoning is remotely different because they are thoroughly and their immediate response to their difference is almost interchangeable. Even in the Kohlberg stage they are constructing a deeper understanding of fairness and justice. This guides both of them that their moral action should remain powerfully influential. They will influence each other based only on the fact that they are from different areas and their morals. The distinct positive functions of friendships, cliques, and crowds in adolescence is that each of them stand for different things and they are organized based on the personalities. Some of them are different because some of them may be the bullied group, but they stick together in order to feel a level of protection. In the year of adolescence majority of the time they tend to stick in groups in order to establish popularity, and in most cases to feel secure and not left out when there are issues amongst other groups. Some factors that lead to some friendships and peer-groups is tied to be harmful because when they get bigger, and other groups form, there would be a case of which is better.
